Welcome Home 116th!
After serving in Iraq for the last year over 400 citizen soldiers from eastern Idaho will return to family and friends in September. KPVI News 6 has two ways people in area can show their gratitude.
First, find our booth this year at the Eastern Idaho State Fair. We will have a camera set up so anyone can record a short message of gratitude. We will compile the messages and pass them along to the 116th Cavalary Brigade. There is no cost to record a message. There will also be a chance for your to sponsor a Welcome Home Packet for each soldier. The cost to sponsor a packet is $5. If you can only give $1, we will take it. The money raised at the fair will be split between the Military Affairs Committees of the Pocatello and Idaho Falls Chambers of Commerce. The committees will use that money to support military families in the area.
The second way we are showing gratitude to our returning soldiers is through a Welcome Home Packet that will go to each soldier. This is where area businesses can help out. KPVI News 6 and chambers of commerce all around eastern Idaho are collecting any kind of coupon or offer a business can give. Whether that's a 10% discount on a service or a free night in a hotel. The more offers we have, the bigger impact it will have. In total 463 soldiers are coming home. That makes 239 in the Upper Valley and 214 in the Lower Valley. We will take donations for all of the troops or for Upper and Lower Valley troops.
If you would like to participate please immediately email Todd Blackinton at tblackinton@kpvi.com. We will then need your coupon or gift certificate submitted to Mike McLendon, ESGR, 208-243-1045 or Jennifer Bowen, Greater Pocatello Chamber of Commerce, 208-681-3132 no later than August 31st. This will give us time to assemble the packets and have them ready for the returning troops.
